The FDA has warned that cat owners need to be diligent keeping lilies away from cats, especially during the Easter season. The white, trumpet-shaped Easter lily appears in many homes as a popular holiday decoration at this time of year. And they are deadly to cats when eaten, even in small amounts. Other threats to your cat's health are Tiger, Asiatic, Day, and Japanese Show Lilies. Leaves, stems, and flowers of these plants are also poisonous to cats. According to the FDA, even just a couple of leaves or licking a few pollen grains off their fur can cause acute kidney failure. Untreated, a cat may die within four to seven days, and early treatment is vital. If you even suspect your cat has eaten a lily, you should take him to an emergency veterinary clinic. Lilies are not a great danger to dogs—eating them can cause stomach and intestinal issues, however they are not life threatening.
